Be Change Runners:
Bravo. Congratulations for completing the first week of training. We picked up momentum and had a great showing on Saturday. I am on vacation and it occurred to me that I did not send out the Monday email.
As Ashley, Katie, and the others continue to train you, stay focused on the big picture. This is a long journey, so patience is key. I was so encouraged on Saturday as I watched people pound out the miles.
Fitness | One of the best tools I have is found at www.livestrong.com. This website is a turn-key environment for all your nutritional needs. Navigate the top tabs and click on Daily Plate. From there, choose My Plate. In this portion of the website, you can personalize your weight loss or weight transfer goals. Each day, you will be amazed at what power of control comes from simply entering every morsel of food you eat. The site has thousands of foods and their nutritional values pre-loaded. It keeps a tab of all your needs. I have used this for quite some time and it is an amazing site.
Focus | Michelle and I had the opportunity to sit with Principal Steve Lewis this past week. He returned from a summer break and we got caught up on all the latest news. I told him about you and what you are doing and he was overwhelmed. We began to vision cast the strides that we will be able to take due to your efforts. With the latest rounds of cuts, the school is facing the deepest cuts of their existence. Things that are essential to the nutritional, health care coverage and simple medical needs are gone. With deep concern he said, “Jason, can these essential needs be covered through Be Change?” Michelle and I looked at each other and gave the OK to get lice kits, First Aid kits, and things to get the ball rolling. The day school starts, we will have an accurate read of how many kids are enrolled in health care and how many lost it due to the governor’s veto on the budget and deep cut of Healthy Families.
Fundraising | You are part of an unprecedented effort. We are boldly seeking to raise $1000 per child on campus. Begin to make a list of those who you know are for sure willing to give to your run. Let them know of your training. Start planting the seed to ask them to secure a dollar per mile. Each one of them giving $26 is feasible.
Lastly, all documents are now uploaded to the www.bechange.cc website. Check in frequently for the updated ‘News’ Section.
